Letty Captains Ireland to Record Placing  
 

Letty Lucas, from Downshire Tennis Club, Hillsborough, achieved the best ever result for Ireland over 55s Veteran Team, playing in the Tennis World Cup in Turkey last week.

Ireland where in a section with the number one seeds USA and tournament hosts Turkey. They beat Turkey in the opening match 3-0, and went on to narrowly lose to the USA. In the play off stages, they defeated Switzerland 2-1, to emerge in 7th position, the highest ever achieved by an over Ireland 55s Ladies Team.

The team of Irene Murphy, also from Ulster, Mary O’Neill and Margaret-Ann Broderick from Leinster was captained by Letty.

The venue was a holiday complex in southern Turkey with over 58 tennis courts and Letty who has played in World Cups in Germany, South Africa and Australia felt this was an exciting event taking place in idyllic surroundings with the Turkish Tennis Association combining with the International Tennis Federation as wonderful hosts and organisers.

Letty is in action again this year as Captain of the Ulster Team taking part in the Interprovincial Championships in Galway.
